Barnsley LEA statement on GCSE results

Barnsley LEA is delighted to be able to declare its best ever GCSE results. 

This years candidates have achieved a really impressive 49% average across the borough for 5 A* to C results. 

The Director of Education, Edna Sutton, says: We are really proud of the achievements of Barnsley students at GCSE this year, building further on the improving picture over the last three years. 

I want to congratulate all the young people whose hard work and determination has been so handsomely rewarded. We must not forget all the teachers and other school staff whose expertise and dedication has enabled their pupils to succeed and, of course, their parents, carers and supporters who must now be very proud of them.

Cllr Linda Burgess, Cabinet Spokesperson for Childrens Services, added: This is excellent news and continues the excellent improvement across Barnsley LEA which has been at a far greater rate than that of local authorities nationally for the past three years.
