EVER fancied surfing the internet but not sure where to start? The answer could lie at Barnsley Central Library.
IT for Me is a free internet browsing service offered exclusively by South Yorkshire's libraries in partnership with Sheffield University and local action groups.
The website and search engine allow users to organise and save their own personal library of information using web-based resources.
The site is easy to use and ideal for those who have little experience of using the internet. The providers are particularly interested in reaching local community groups and those who may not necessarily have regular internet access.
Local representative Matt Scholes will be at the Central Library on Shambles Street every Wednesday afternoon and in the evening on Mondays (please arrive before 7pm). He will be on hand to assist people in signing up and can give information about web-based information, local societies and opportunities.
Matt can be contacted on 07758 707705.
The Central Library is also holding a Silver Surfers' day on Friday, May 26 from 10am to 12noon in the training room.
The free session is aimed at anyone over 50 and is an informal, hands-on introduction to the world wide web. There will also be a demonstration of the IT for Me site.
