HIGH View Primary Learning Centre in Wombwell was officially opened today (19 September) by the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Margaret Morgan.
The ceremony at High View marks the second opening of 13 new primary learning centres and primary schools a major council investment in
Pupils, teachers, parents, governors, council officials and building construction partners joined in the celebrations as a plaque unveiling was performed by the Mayor and pupils cut the ribbon.
This was followed by a balloon launch, speeches, a performance of singing by the pupils and a tour of the school.
Head teacher, Gerry Foster-Wilson, said: The community of High View Primary Learning Centre are very lucky to have such a fantastic new school. We are very excited about the future of High View and how teaching and learning can be developed in such a great new building.
Thirteen primary learning centres and primary schools are being built by Carillion Four Wombwell Park Street, Kings Oak, Darfield Valley and Littleworth Grange are already in use.
Two further phases of openings are planned for spring and autumn 2007. These state-of-the-art educational establishments will deliver 21st century learning facilities as part of the councils Remaking Learning agenda.
