Starting and Changing Schools

Online Admissions

During September and October 2008, you can Apply Online for your child a school place for the academic year 2009-10.

Please note: Due to essential maintenance, the online system will be unavailable between 9.00am and 1.00pm on Sunday 12 October and 19 October.

You will want to find out as much as you can about the schools you are considering for your child. All schools publish a prospectus, and their staff will be happy to talk to you, arrange visits and send you further information.

If you need information about individual schools, advice on considering your preferences, or details of our school transport policy, please refer to Section 5 of the Admission to Primary School - Advice to Parents Booklet 2008/09.

By law children have to be offered places at the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. However the policy in Barnsley from the 2004/05 school year will be to admit children at two points during the school year as follows:

1 January 2004 to
31 August 2004
Beginning of spring term
(January 2009)

Admission to school - academic year 2009/2010

Child's date of birth

31 December 2004

(January 2010)

Aided schools are responsible for their own admissions policies and the dates of admission may vary from those of the authority. If you are considering applying for a place at an aided school, you should contact the headteacher for details of the school's admission policy.

Full details of our admission arrangements are included in the 'Admission to School - Advice to Parents' booklets (junior/ primary/ secondary/ nursery) available from the School Admissions Section (01226 773689). Arrangements for admission to Greenacre Special School are included in both the primary and secondary booklets.
