Over many years the Council has participated in a number of Central Government initiatives to help young people into employment and to enhance the skills base in the Borough. As a result the Council established a number of quality modern apprenticeship schemes, for example:
These training schemes offer apprentices nationally recognised National Vocational Qualifications; Technical Certificates (depending on framework); Key Skills along with valuable experience within a work environment. This work experience is delivered 'on the job' by Directorates; off the job training and qualification are delivered by nationally accredited colleges, for example, Barnsley College.
The training schemes have been developed and delivered with the involvement and co-operation of Directorate officers, the Trade Unions, the relevant Managing Agents and Human Resources.
The Council advertises all traineeships and apprenticeships with the local Connexion Centres, the local press and on the Council's vacancy webpages.
So watch the local press and the Council's Vacancy webpages at the times of year shown below. Please click on the link to the right to view the latest Council vacancies and access the on-line recruitment service.
