A licence is required to use part of the public highway for the sale of food and drink and for the placing of tables, chairs and other furniture outside a restaurant or cafe for the use of its' patrons.
Managers or owners of premises selling food and drink in Barnsley Town Centre.
After contacting us we will send you an application form to request a Street Cafe Licence.
On receipt of the completed application and appropriate fee, the Council will consult interested parties, such as the Police and other emergency services.
Each location will be carefully considered and if suitable the legal process to establish the consent will commence.

We normally request a cheque to be forwarded with the completed application form, made payable to 'Barnsley MBC'.
Please take care to complete the application form correctly, giving details of proposals and interested parties, such as, building owner.

On receipt of the application, the consultation process and issuing of the licence takes up to 12 weeks.
Additional permission is also required to serve alcohol outside premises.
