Dropped Kerbs

Description

Residents for properties adjacent to the highway can apply for permission to create a vehicular access crossing (subject to Planning permission being already obtained on classified roads, such as A, B or C roads). This allows them to gain access for a vehicle from the road to their property.

Eligibility

All homeowners, tenants, developers and businesses who wish to create an access into their property, for their vehicles.

Procedure

The customer should contact us to request an application to drop the kerb, which the Council will send out with a standard specification. On receipt of the application and appropriate fee the Council will send out permission documents. The customer can employ either the Council or a private contractor to carry out the works under the Council's supervision.

If you decide to employ a contractor, they must indemnify the Council against any claim arising from the works. You must therefore supply a copy of their public liability insurance (minimum £10,000,000.00) with the completed application forms.

Helplines

Charges/Fees

There is a £50.00 fee (which does not include the cost of the work).

We normally request a cheque to be forwarded with the application, made payable to 'Barnsley MBC'.
