Road Safety Unit is responsible for the operation and management of this service in Barnsley. School Crossing Patrols operate at many locations throughout Barnsley, and each day they assist thousands of people to cross the road safely. Vacancies for patrols often exist.
Vacancies currently exist at certain locations throughout the Borough and these can be very difficult to fill owing to a lack of suitable applicants within that area.
If you have a few hours to spare, or know someone who does, and would like to help our children stay safe on the roads and earn £6.77 per hour.
If you would like further information about current vacancies please ring the School Crossing Patrol Supervisors
on 01226 772024
When approaching a patrol you should always be prepared to slow down or stop. Once the Patrol raises the sign in a vertical position you must by law STOP. You must not wait for them to step off the pavement. The Highway Code states,
YOU MUST STOP WHEN SIGNALLED TO DO SO BY A SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL EXHIBITING A STOP SIGN.
