The majority of grass verges adjacent to the road are within the public maintained highway and are therefore the responsiblity of the Council to maintain.
Anyone wishing to report the condition of a verge to the Council.
The Council, as highway authority, is required to keep verges safe and unobstructed. This is particularly important at road junctions when clear visibility is necessary.
The Council arranges for highway verges to be cut on a routine basis throughout the growing season. This is funded from the Highway Maintenance revenue budgets. Verges in rural areas are usually only cut twice a year.
If a verge is being damaged by vehicles we will attempt to visit those responsible for the damage to request that they stop over-running the verge, though gathering evidence to take legal proceedings against those responsible can be very difficult.
Non-highway revenue is sometimes available to hard pave a verge where there is a particular problem with parking, however this funding is very limited.
