Regulatory Services

Regulatory Services is one of four service areas in the Environmental Services Directorate and delivers Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing and Bereavement Services functions.

What is the Core Purpose of Regulatory Services?
To contribute to the protection and improvement of the health, safety and well-being and environment of the people who live in, work in, trade in or visit the Borough.

The Service has a major contribution to the Environmental Services Directorates mission to create a Clean, Green and Safe Borough as well as a number of cross-cutting agendas, particularly Public Health, Citizenship, Liveability, Community Safety and Fit for the Future.

What Does Regulatory Services Do?
The functions dealt with by Regulatory Services are carried out by the following sections;

• Bereavement Services (burial, cremation and memorialisation)
• Environmental Control (littering, dog fouling, pest control and drainage)
• Food and Health & Safety (food and health and safety enforcement and education)
• Licensing (alcohol, entertainment and taxi licensing)
• Pollution Control (commercial, industrial and domestic noise and air pollution)
• Trading Standards & Animal Health (product safety, fair trading, metrology and animal welfare)

We have a number of approaches to providing these services, which include giving advice, guidance and education as well as carrying out enforcement, to ensure public safety and well-being.
