If you have recently suffered a bereavement, Barnsley Metropolitan Council would like to express its condolences at this difficult time. Bereavement is a part of life that we all experience. We at Barnsley MBC Bereavement Services are here to help you in any way we can.
Our aim is to provide a high quality, accessible and dignified burial and cremation service for all bereaved families within the community of the Borough and surrounding areas, in peaceful and comfortable surroundings.
The Cemetery and Crematorium office is situated in the grounds of the Crematorium.
A genealogical service (family trees) is provided during office hours. A room is available for members of the public researching family history. Please telephone for further details of this service.

Q Can I have a plaque near where my family members remains have gone?
A Yes - we try and get the memorial as near as possible to the cremated remains.
Q Do I need to contact you now I''ve had a death in the family?
A No - you do need to contact a funeral director if you have not done so already. We will send you a letter after the cremation or burial, to give you details for the burial plot or scattering area of the remains. The funeral director should have information packs regarding Bereavement Services to give out to you, if not please contact Bereavement Services direct.
Q Who do I need to contact if I have a cemetery enquiry?
A You need to contact Bereavement Services, who also deals with all the burials within the Borough. We should be able to help you with any cemetery information and also any family history information.
