The public Mortuary is a facility, provided by the Council for HM Coroner, where bodies are stored pending post-mortem examination and any inquest. It is generally used in cases of death arising from accidents, crime, suspicious or unusual circumstances.
The mortuary handles deaths where a post mortum is required, usually due to a referral to the Coroner or deaths where no death certificate can be issued.
All paperwork will be filled in either by the funeral director or the coroners office on your behalf. You may be asked for further information, but should this be the case, they will contact you directly.
As soon as the body is released it will be brought to the funeral home of your choice, ready for cremation or burial.
