Contaminated Land Strategy

Description

Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 came into force on 1 April 2000, establishing a new statutory regime for the identification and remediation of contaminated land. This regime requires each local authority to inspect its area for contaminated land and to publish a written document explaining how it is going to carry out this.

Barnsley Metropolitan Council published its draft Inspection Strategy in November 2001 to allow a period of consultation to take place, providing the opportunity for the general public, statutory bodies and other interested parties to make any comments. A period of consultation took place, and the responses were reviewed and incorporated into the final draft of the Contaminated Land Strategy. The final version has been put before the Cabinet, who accepted this document as policy.
