Household Waste Recycling Centres - Prior Arrangements

Summary

 

Barnsley Council provides four Household Waste Recycling Centres to enable residents of the Council's area to recycle / dispose of unwanted household waste.
You are only able to use the Household Waste Recycling Centres with large vans over 6ft, pickups and small sign written vans by prior arrangement.

 

Procedure

 

To make a prior arrangement you need to ring the Household Waste Recycling helpline with details of ; yourself, the site you wish to visit, the vehicle you wish to use and the type of waste you wish to take.

Please note that only household waste accompanied by yourself from your domestic property is accepted.

Barnsley Council provides four Household Waste Recycling Centreslocated as follows:

  • West St, Worsbrough Dale
  • Smithies Lane, Barnsley
  • Nicholas Lane, Highgate, Goldthorpe
  • Springvale, Penistone

Household Waste Recycling Centres are open every day except Christmas, Boxing and New Years Day as follows:
1st April -30th September 9.30am -7.45pm
1st October -31st March 9.30am -4.30pm

 

How the customer can help

 

You can help by having full details of yourself; name, address, occupation and telephone number and full details of the vehicle; make, type, registration number, any sign writing, the type of waste to be deposited and know which site you wish to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

How many times can I visit the site?
There is no limit to visits as long as you are only bringing household waste from your domestic property. If our operatives suspect that any waste is trade waste then an enforcement officer may call and visit you to check the origins of the waste.

What happens if I can't visit when I have made an arrangement?
No problem just book for when you will next be coming.

Are there any restrictions as to what I can bring to the site?
Yes, only household waste and very small amounts of building waste (up to 5 bags)

Can I bring car tyres to the site?
No we are not allowed by law to landfill tyres and so cannot accept them. Most major vehicle traders will accept used tyres for disposal for a small fee.

Can I bring my neighbours household waste to the site?
No. Each individual can only bring waste from their own domestic property.

Can I bring waste from my small business to the site?
No. Household waste recycling centres are for the disposal of household waste from your own domestic property only.

Can I bring asbestos to the site?
Yes. The Worsbrough site accepts asbestos by prior arrangement only.

Can I get help lifting items at the site?
Yes, please speak to any of the trained site operatives for help.

Is there a charge on site?
No. The cost of household waste recycling centres is included in your annual council tax charges.

What are site opening times?
1st April- 30th September 9.30am -7.45pm.
1st October -31st March 9.30am -4.30pm

Do I need a permit?
If you own a small un-signed van or car and trailer, yes.

Do I need to make any special arrangements to visit?
If you are visiting the site with a trailer or van, yes.
