Recycling Home Composting

Summary

 

The Council is committed to increasing the amount of waste which is re-used, recycled and composted.

Home composting is a practical way to help the environment.

Alternatively garden waste can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres, where it can then be transported to a local facility and composted. For more information on Household Waste Recycling Centres.

 

Procedure

 

All garden waste can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres, where it will then be transported to a local facility and composted.

The Council provides 4 Household Waste Recycling Centres for the disposal and recycling of household and garden waste. These facilities are free of charge to residents within the Barnsley Borough and are located at:

  • Nicholas Lane, Goldthorpe
  • Smithies Lane, Barnsley
  • Springvale, Penistone
  • West Street, Worsbrough Bridge

Opening Hours:

1st October to 31st March, 9:30am - 4:30pm
(Sites will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day)

1st April to 30th September, 9:30am - 7:45pm

 

How the customer can help

 

No commercial or industrial waste is allowed on these sites.

Permit not required:

  • All private saloon cars will be allowed on site without a permit.
  • Private saloon cars higher than 1.8m will need to contact the site attendant for access.

A permit will be required for:

  • Private saloon cars with trailer
  • Sign written vans, smaller than 1.8m in height, used to transport householders own waste
