Welcome to the Directorate for Children, Young People and Families.
In April 2007, a range of ‘education’ and ‘social care’ services came together to form the new Directorate for Children, Young People and Families. This happened in response to the Government’s programme of reform to develop more effective and accessible services for children, young people and their families.
The Government is committed to giving every child the best possible start in life. Through its Every Child Matters programme, it aims to improve the outcomes for children and young people to make sure they’re healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution, and achieve economic wellbeing.
To make sure this happens in Barnsley, we have developed the Children and Young People’s Plan. To deliver the plan, the directorate works in partnership with health services, the third sector (voluntary sector) and lots of other organisations, such as schools, children’s centres, the hospital, and the police.
It is also important to us that children, young people, and their families are involved in shaping the services we provide for them. One of the ways we do this in Barnsley is through Voice and Influence.
In this area of the website, you’ll find information on social care services for children and young people. These services aim to provide additional support to those children, young people and families in need.
