Any young person convicted of an offence may be considered for a reparation Order by the Court. Under Reparation Order a young person is required to undertake some form of reparation for the offence(s) they have committed. This can take different forms, for example:
The Court makes a Reparation Order for a set number of hours, up to a maximum of 24.
If the Court makes a Reparation Order the young person will normally be seen by the Youth Offending Team within one working day. They will undertake an assessment to see if some form of direct mediation or reparation is suitable. If this is not possible, victim awareness sessions and an indirect or community reparation placement will be arranged. These will be discussed with the young person and their parents or carers.
More information can be obtained Barnsley YOT, McLintock's Building, Crookes Street, Barnsley S70 7BX
The YOT is open 9.00 to 5.00 Monday to Friday. Most Reparation order activities will take place during the evening or at weekends, by arrangement with the young person, parents and, where appropriate, victims.
