Respite Care provides a break for you or your carers in a number of ways.This may be for a few hours few days or longer periods.Respite Care may be provided throughout support at Home, daycare or a short stay in a residential or nursing home. Home Care vouchers may also be availiable each voucher is equivalent to one hours worth of home care. The carer is then able to arrange respite care when they want the service by directly contacting the approved homecare provider.Residential Respite Care Vouchers are also avaliable, this gives carers the freedom to choose from any of the private residential homes participating in the scheme. Each voucher covers 24 hours of care.Day Care provides a range of support services aimed at promoting Independance. Day Care as it is provides a break for Carers from their caring role.
Anyone who undertakes a caring role for a friend or relative may be able to access Respite Care Services. The eligibilty is determined by Fair Access to Care Service. Ask you''re Care Manager for further details and find out if you eligible during your community care assessment.
Respite needs will be identified during the Community Care Assessment which will also include a carer''s assessment. The assessment''s are generally carried out in a persons home and will involve the individual, those who care for them and any relevant professional.
If you do not have a Care Manager please contact your local Social Services office or someone from the Health Services, your GP a District Nurse or Health Visitor who will also be able to advise you.
