Safety Alert

The Health and Safety Executive has issued a safety alert to individual homeowners, tenants, landlords and the plumbing industry, following the death of a baby caused by a faulty hot water system. The alert explains the scalding risk associated with similar systems and gives guidance on what to look out for.

Welcome to Housing Services in Barnsley where you will find information on Housing issues across Barnsley.

Within the borough the Council housing is managed by an Arms Length management organisation called Berneslai Homes. The houses are still Council owned homes, and the Council still sets the rents and all main policies – Berneslai Homes manage them.

If you wish to register on the waiting list for a property you need to contact any Barnsley Connects office or telephone 01226 775555 for an application form.

Each year the Council agree priorities for investment and any new policy developments with Berneslai Homes following consultation with tenants, and then agree a programme with Berneslai Homes for them to deliver those priorities and any targeted investment.

Berneslai Homes implement the Councils lettings policy, whilst Homelessness and Housing Advice matters are dealt with by the Adult Services Department of the Council based at Wellington House. You can contact them on 01226 773870 (In case of the need for assistance out of office hours contact the Emergency Duty Team on 715656).
