Barnsley Council is committed to improving the energy efficiency of all homes within the public and private sector (owner occupiers) via ongoing programmes across the Borough. Over 25 % of all carbon emissions are the result of how we heat and use our homes. Home energy improvements help to reduce global warming, tackling the vital issue of climate change.
A variety of schemes are currently running:
Barnsley Over 60s Grant Scheme 2008-2011This provides FREE cavity wall & loft insulation to eligible householders who:
• Are over 60 years of age
• Rely on their pension as a main source of income
• Reside in properties registered under Barnsley MBC Council Tax Bands A to D
National Over 70s Scheme
Provides free insulation to:
• Those aged 70 years or over
• Residents living in private rented homes or owner occupiers
Provides heating and insulation at heavily discounted prices, for those for those who are working / not in receipt of a means tested benefit.
A national, government funded grant scheme providing heating, insulation and draught proofing for eligible customers who are in receipt of any one of a wide range of benefits related to low income, old age or disability.
We work in partnership with the South Yorkshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre to give general advice on saving energy in the home.
We are also charged with helping to alleviate fuel poverty across the region, and have our own Affordable warmth Adviser to tackle this directly.
The regional HOTSPOTS project which launches on 27th November 2007 will provide a robust referral network to access vulnerable people and assist them to benefit from a number of safety, security and health-based services:
• Energy / Affordable Warmth grants & advice
• Home Fire Safety Checks
• Benefit Health Checks
• Quit Smoking service
