Housing Land and Assets

The future uses of housing land and assets are outlined in the Council's Asset Management Plan. The Asset Management Plan outlines the Council's priorities which are taken from the Community Plan. The Asset Management Plan seeks to provide a picture of the current position of Barnsley MBC's management of its property, office accommodation, planned maintenance programmes and disposals programmes.

As part of the Asset Management Plan, a percentage of the capital receipts generated from the sale of housing assets will be used to support the Housing Investment Programme.

The future use of housing land assets will be planned under Barnsley MBC's Strategic Framework. Land will be used for a range of provision including new and supported housing, the need for which is identified in the Housing Strategy. Land will also be identified for housing renewal and regeneration projects across the borough in both the public and private sectors.

How do I purchase an area of land or property from the council?

If you are interested in a particular piece of land or property in the first instance you should write to:

Operational Asset Manager
BMBC Asset Management
Springfield House
Springfield Street
Barnsley
S70 6HH

Include a covering letter and a plan or sketch drawing of the area that you are interested in. The expression of interest will then be passed on to the relevant department and a response outlining the Council's plan for this particular asset will be sent to you.
