The Summer Carnival will take place on 10 July this year, with the annual Parade once again transforming the town centre, this year the parade will be awash with red hearts promoting healthier life style and acting as a warm up to the Heart of Barnsley festival celebration, happening at Locke Park later on the same day.
The Heart of Barnsley festival is a truly spectacular programme of workshops and events that will culminate in the Heart of Barnsley Finale on the evening of the summer carnival.
Central to the Heart of Barnsley programme will be the creation of a 30ft sculpture ‘Bye Bye Burger Boy’ that will be the focal point of an evening of fire, performance and stunning pyrotechnics.
Working with NHS Barnsley to promote active lifestyles and healthier hearts, Newcastle based company Dodgy Clutch will work along side a team of local artists to devise and create a finale event that promises to be a breathtaking community celebration on a scale unseen in Barnsley before.
Look out for public workshops in May and June for your chance to make your own Red Hearts and be part of both the Parade and the evening’s celebrations, helping to light up the sky.
10 July 2010 promises to be a day not to be missed in Barnsley.
