Upcoming events 2008 at Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens

Sunday 31st  August.  The Language of Flowers   exhibition.  Free admission.  Discover precious flowers and their meanings in the art collections of Barnsley Museums.  

Until 31st October 2008 – ‘China Inspired’ Exhibition.  A small exhibition showcasing aspects of Chinese cultural links through the collection at Cannon Hall Museum and loaned items, alongside some exceptional work by contemporary artists from China. This will be free entry during museum opening hours.

20th July – launch of ‘China Inspired’. 12pm – opening statement by Mr Loh, then lion dancers bless the events.
12pm – 4pm - fun activities to watch demonstrated and have a go. Many will be free but may be ticketed due to numbers.  Including calligraphy, paper-folding, paper lantern making, chinese refreshments, music, craft stall, herb stall

Sunday 20th July: Edwardian Day: Please call for further details.

Wednesday 23rd July: Summer Sweets, Sessions at 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm, Make a sunny scene out of sweets. £2.50

Sunday 27th July – Meet the Artists Group of exceptional artists from the Institute of Art Research in Xian will be doing demonstrations of their work. Interpreters available to help with your questions. 12pm – 4pm, Free event.

Sunday 27th July: Barnsley Rotary Club Classic Car Rally.

Wednesday 30th July: Pond Dipping-Discover what lives in and around our pond! 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm, £1 pre booking required

Wednesday 6th August: Outdoor Treasure Hunt - 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm, £1. Follow the clues to win a treat!

Friday 8th August: Bat & Moth Walk 8pm, £2.50, pre booking required please

Sunday 10th August: Friends of Cannon Hall Country Fair.  Traditional entertainment, craft stalls, children’s  activities and much more!  Open 10.30am—4pm.

Wednesday 13th August: Mini Beast Hunt  sessions at 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm, £1, pre book please

Saturday 16 August – Kung Fu and Tai Chi.  Demonstrations and chance to have a go. Led by representatives of the British Kung Fu Association. Sessions at 1pm and 2pm. Free event.

Sunday 17th August: Treasure Island - outdoor theatre for families. Prices £12 Adult, £6 Children, £10 Friends & £35 Family Ticket (max 2 adults +3 children).  Gates open at 3.00pm for picnics.  Performance at 4.00pm –in all weathers.  Bring low-backed seating, rugs and all-weather wear.(£1 per person discount if booked with Little Women).

Saturday 23rd August: Free micro-chipping for dogs 10am to 12pm (Barnsley Residents only)  in the deer shed. Also,10am to 5pm Free dog health checks by the PDSA in the car park.

Sunday 24th & Monday 25th August: Craft Fair presented by the Northern Arts & Crafts Guild, all genuinely hand made goods. Plus PDSA Dog Health Checks, free, 10am to 4pm

Wednesday 27th August -Pond dipping sessions at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30 pm, £1 per child, please pre book

Sunday 28 September - Chinese Calligraphy.  Fascinating talk by artist and lecturer, Brian Morgan, about the history and meaning of Chinese Calligraphy and have a go for yourself. Starts at 2 pm for £2 per person, pre-booking recommended.

Saturday 13 September – Taster of Cantonese. Find out a bit more about Chinese culture, have a go at learning some basic Cantonese words and get a taste of some Chinese refreshments. Session starts at 11am, Costs £2 per person, pre-booking essential.

Sunday 14th September: Danger Detectives Trail Follow our tricky trail for Heritage Open Days

Sunday 21st September: Pear Day—celebrate the Pear harvest with fun & activities for all the family

Sunday 28th September: Adult Lecture - Significant Calligraphy 2pm to 4pm

Friday 10th October : Fabulous Fifties! Lively costumed presentation. Starts 7.30pm, doors open 6.45pm. Tickets £12.00 each (£10.00 Friends). Refreshments available.  Pre booking required.

Sunday 12th October: Big Draw at Cannon Hall Museum - Do a drawing inspired by Big Draw, plus Craft Fair   presented by the Northern Arts & Crafts Guild

Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th October: Re-enactment Weekend. Please call for further details

Sunday 19th October – Dragon Puppets and Chinese Stencils. A fun family craft activity. Drop in any time between 12.30pm to 3.30pm for £1 per child.

Sunday 26th October: Witches & Wizards Craft Activity

Friday 31st October: Ghost Walks.  6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm.  Adults £5.00, Children £4.50.  Tickets must be booked in advance from 1st June.

Sunday 9th November: Craft Fair - presented by the Northern Arts & Crafts Guild, all hand made

Saturday 15th November: Regency Ball. 7.30pm to 11.30pm.  Tickets £37.50 per person (non-refundable) - now on sale. Includes afternoon practice & supper

Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th December: Edwardian Christmas Fair—crafts, music, entertainment & activities for Children, plus see the house decorated for Christmas

Friday 12th December: Regency Christmas Evening– highly entertaining Regency fun in the stunning Ballroom decorated for Christmas

Sunday 14th December: Craft Fair and Father Christmas.

Sunday 21st December: Craft Fair and Father Christmas.
