 What do I do next?

Please contact us for a wedding information pack, and to speak to our wedding co-ordinator, who can advise on availability and booking details.

Having confirmed the date and time of your wedding with us at Cannon Hall, you must also contact the Superintendent Registrar to check availability on the planned date.

Once the date and time has been confirmed by the Superindendent Registrar and Cannon Hall, please complete the booking form (attached to the wedding pack) and return it to Cannon Hall with a deposit of 20% of the hire charge.

The booking will be confirmed on receipt of the booking form and deposit. The Superintendent Registrar must be satisfied with the plans, and it is your responsibility to keep them informed of these arising from discussions at Cannon Hall.

Please contact us for further information.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I get married and how many guests can you seat?
A: You have a choice of two rooms within Cannon Hall:

  • The Library
The Library was added to the existing house in the 1760s by John Spencer to house his collection of books. The plasterwork and painting above the fireplace reflect John Spencer's interest in the countryside and landscape. The furniture in the room includes examples of work by Chippendale and Hepplewhite. The Library will seat up to 20 guests for a civil wedding ceremony.
  • The Ballroom
The Ballroom was part of a wing added as an extension to Cannon Hall in 1891. Its fine dark oak paneling and minstrels gallery give it the appearance of a Jacobean Hall. The tall windows and the elaborate fireplace over mantel mounted with coats of arms of various families associated with the Hall add to its grandeur. The Ballroom will seat up to 90 guests for a civil wedding ceremony.

Q: Do you provide flowers?
A: No, but you are welcome to discuss arrangements for flowers with us.

Q: Can we use confetti?
A: Although confetti cannot be used at all in or outside the Hall, a suitable alternative for use outside would be rose petals or biodegradeable confetti. Rose petal confetti is available from the Museum shop.

Q: What music can I play during the ceremony?
A: Music to accompany your wedding ceremony may be arranged, either live or recorded. The music cannot be of a religious nature and must also be approved by the Superintendent Registrar. Cannon Hall will provide a CD player and a member of staff will operate it on the day. Please note that our machine will not play CD-RW discs. There is a piano in the Ballroom which is available for use on the day.

Q: Do you provide receptions?
A: Yes, after the wedding ceremony champagne receptions are available, either inside in the Spencer Wing or outdoors in the Walled Garden.

The Spencer Wing is also available for a sit down meal or buffet, but it is not suitable for dancing or entertainment. This room can accommodate 60 people seated around tables or 80-90 buffet style and offers a kitchen and bar facility. Couples can view this room on request.

There is a discount on hire of the Spencer Wing until 11pm for couples getting married at Cannon Hall. Please ask for details.

Cannon Hall has an in-house caterer who can discuss menus and requirements with you. Please ask us for details.

For smaller receptions, the atmospheric Servants Hall is available and seats approximately 40 guests. This room is adjacent to the Victorian Kitchen which still has its original working Victorian ranges, providing a fascinating and alternative setting for your reception.

You can also take advantage of the beautiful parkland by arranging a marquee. The marquee is positioned centrally in the park and overlooks the lake, with Cannon Hall itself providing a breathtaking backdrop. Any arrangements for activity in the grounds must be made by the wedding party in liason with the Museum.

Please note: Cannon Hall is a no smoking building

Q: Where can we park?
A: Parking is available for guests in the overspill area of the main car park (weather permitting) and in the main tarmac area of the main car park, located near the lakes. The museum is a short distance away. Due to limited space, parking immediately outside the Hall is restricted to the wedding car(s) and disabled and elderly guests. Other guests may be dropped off at the main entrance and cars taken back to the main car park. Free parking vouchers will be given on request to wedding guests to display clearly in their cars.

Q: Can we use videos and cameras?
A: The use of personal video cameras is prohibited inside the Hall. Arrangements may be discussed for an official recording of a wedding to take place.

Official wedding photography of the bride and groom may be taken inside the Hall and in the grounds of the museum. There are specific locations within the Museum where photography is permitted. We will be happy to discuss these with you beforehand.

Guests will be asked to restrict the use of individual cameras inside the museum due to exhibits in the rooms which are sensitive to flash photography.
