Passport to Leisure Scheme
What is the Passport to Leisure (PTL) scheme?
Passport to Leisure (PTL) is a scheme run by Barnsley Council which enables certain groups of people, resident within the Barnsley Borough, to enjoy many sporting, recreational, leisure and retail services at concessionary prices.
Am I eligible for membership to the scheme?
The following Barnsley residents are eligible for membership to the scheme:
Unemployment benefit claimants
Those on a training scheme (non-waged)
Students aged 18+ in full-time education
The over 60's
Disabled people (disabled carer cards also available)
Incapacity claimants
People receiving income support, working tax credit, housing/council tax benefit, carer's allowance
An unemployed adult dependant of the above
A dependant junior of the above (age 3 - 15)
16 and 17 year olds
Disabled juniors (disabled carer cards also available)
Where can I apply for or renew a PTL card?
You can pick up an application leaflet and apply for, or renew your existing PTL card at any of the following application centres:

Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre
Wombwell Swimming Pool

How much does a PTL card cost?
The cost of a Passport to Leisure card depends upon your eligibility category and payment can be made in cash:
over 60's, disabled adults and carers
cards cost £2 and last for 5 years
students age 18+
cards cost £1 and last until 30 September in the current academic year
16 and 17 year olds
cards cost £1 and last until the applicant's 18th birthday
dependant juniors, disabled juniors and carers
cards are free of charge and last for 1 year
all other categories
cards cost £1 and last for 1 year
How do I apply for or renew my PTL card?
To apply for, or renew an existing PTL membership card you need to go to one of the application centres listed above and take the following:
proof that you are eligible for membership- e.g. letter / form confirming benefit details, bank statement, proof of age etc.
a recent passport sized photo - an ordinary snapshot or digital photo can be used, or the photo from your existing card if you are renewing your membership
the relevant registration fee - see above
You will be asked to complete an application form and your PTL card will then be issued straight away. Renewal forms are automatically sent to members when their existing cards are due to expire.
NB: If you are over 60 you may renew your existing card by post. To renew by post you must send the following to: Barnsley MBC, Passport to Leisure, PO Box No 597, Barnsley. S71 9EW - please mark the envelope 'to be opened by addressee only'. Your new card will be posted out to you within 5 days of receipt of your renewal application.

a stamped, self addressed envelope (for us to send your new card back to you)
a cheque for £2 made payable to BMBC

Where can I get discounts with my PTL Card?
Juniors age 3-15 with a PTL card can obtain discounts at Barnsley Premier Leisure facilities for swimming and teen gym, and at the Metrodome for 360 membership - a fun, fit club for kids.
Adults with a PTL card can obtain discounts at the places mentioned below:

Discounts can be obtained for swimming, tone zones, aerobics, athletics, aquafit/splashdance, badminton, circuit training, fitness classes, fitness suites, indoor bowls, martial arts, saunas, squash, table tennis and weight training at:
