What is Sports Development?

Advice for local clubs and organisations on for example:

How to write a constitution
Funding
Child protection
Sports coaching and training courses
How to develop a junior section

Other work includes:

Policy and strategy formulation for sport and recreation activities.
Service planning for sport and recreation activities.
Feasibility work and business planning for external funding bids for sport and recreation projects.
Implementation of national initiatives (for example: Sport Unlimited).
Community development work involving sport and recreation activities.
Creation and maintenance of local sports development partnerships/bodies in conjunction with governing bodies of sport.
Partnership work with other public sector bodies and the voluntary sector for activities consistent with the Government Agenda (health promotion, regeneration, community safety and diversionary activities).
Marketing/promotional activities directly attributable to sport and recreation activities.
Partnership work with schools to deliver national initiatives (for example: Active Schools, School Sports Co-ordinators).
Directly employed and externally funded staff under direct management control carrying out development work either detached or within facilities.

Individuals, sports clubs and organisations within the borough of Barnsley.

Charges/Fees

No charge for advice.

There is likely to be a charge for coach education training courses, this will vary depending on the provider of the course.

Opening Times/Locations

The Sports Development Co-ordinator can be contacted between 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Thursday; and 9:00am - 4:30pm on Friday.
