What are the legal requirements to drive in the UK?
To be able to drive legally in the UK you will need the following:

Full Driving License
In most cases, you need to have a full UK driving license to be able to drive legally, however in some cases you will be able to drive with your current license, that is if the license is valid in your country.  Usually y
ou can use your license from your country for up to a year, after that you will have to obtain a UK driving license.  Please check with the DVLA to see if your license is valid.

To get a full UK driving license you will need to take a theory test which consists of 35 questions, you will need to get at least 30 in order to pass, and a hazard perception test as well which consists of some videos in where you need to identify hazards in order to pass.

There are some CD-ROMs on the market which can help you prepare for
these tests.

Click on the pictures below to see where you can obtain these CD-ROMs.

INSURANCE
Before you take a car on the road you must insure it to the minimum third party insurance which covers your use of the vehicle.  Only the insured driver can drive the car.

Insurance sometimes is expensive especially for young male drivers as they are considered as a danger.  Overtime of you have never made a claim you accumulate a No Claims Bonus which can substantially reduce the price of your insurance.

MOT CERTIFICATE
Your MOT certificate confirms that at the time of the test your vehicle met, as far as can be reasonably determined without dismantling, the minimum acceptable environmental and road safety standards required by law. It does not mean that the vehicle is roadworthy for the life of the certificate and is not a substitute for regular maintenance.
