Building Control is responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe built environment within the borough. This is achieved by ensuring that new building works comply with the national building regulations.
The building regulations legislate for:
- The health, safety and welfare of people in and around buildings.
- The conservation of fuel and power.
- The provision for access and facilities for the disabled.
What services do we provide?
- Checking submitted drawings, specifications and calculations for compliance with the building regulations
- Inspecting building works within the borough to ensure that they are constructed in such a way that they are at least to the acceptable minimum standards set out in the Building Regulations Approved Documents Part A to Part P.
- Dealing with any reported dangerous structures.
- Issuing street names and numbers.
- Public entertainment licensing.
- Safety of sports grounds
- SAP Assessments and SBEM Calculations are now available from Building Control.

This initiative operates voluntary site and company codes of considerate practice.
Company Registration Scheme
Based under the considerate construction scheme this is for the smaller builder who cannot regitser under the main scheme.
