Disabled Person At Work

Article Body

In Barnsley there are a number of agencies that provide support to people with disabilities (including mental health problems) who are seeking employment.

Disability Employment Advisors (DEA's) can help people who have been unemployed for some time to find a suitable job or training. You may require help to build up your confidence and get back into a work routine before returning to paid employment. The DEA can arrange a trial period of work preparation for up to six weeks during this time you continue to claim any benefits you are entitled to. Help is also available with the following:

  • Assessment - finding out about your abilities and the sort of job that would suit you then drawing up a plan of action to get the job or training course.
  • Contact - putting you in touch with potential employers
  • Help with travel to work, equipment, a support worker or other help
  • Supported employment - if you have a more severe disability or health problem.
