WORKCHOICE offers a range of support to disabled people that will:
- Develop and improve job skills and employability, including the ability to work with others and sustain a job
- Assist disabled people who are facing the most significant barriers to working and who need continuing support over a period of time
- Encourage personal development and promote independence
- Enable people to work effectively in a job, focusing on both the needs of the employee and employer
- Encourage employers to get involved in the development and support of their employees
Employment Areas
People employed on the WORKCHOICE programme work all around the borough of Barnsley. They also work in a wide range of specialist areas, such as teaching, gardening and social services. For example, Moorland Plastics currently provides jobs for 40 disabled people in their factory and has 14 external places allocated to us as a result of WORKCHOICE funding.
Of course, the majority of occupations are in the public sector, but as a WORKCHOICE provider, we’re looking to extend the programme even further into the private sector. We’re raising the awareness of WORKCHOICE amongst local employers and promoting the employment of people with disabilities.
