Welcome to the Barnsley MBC Housing Service web pages where you will find information covering a range of housing matters.
The Barnsley MBC Housing Service aims to ensure that housing needs and aspirations are met by enabling access by all to a home that is well maintained, warm and affordable in a peaceful and secure environment.
The Council carries out the following housing functions:
• Assessment of housing needs
• Strategy and policy development to meet assessed housing needs
• Housing regeneration planning and delivery
• To facilitate an increase in the supply of affordable and market housing
• To facilitate the provision of accommodation to meet a variety of supported and specialist housing needs
• Private sector improvement works (including adaptations works for the disabled)
• Facilitating the return to use of empty homes, especially in the private sector
• Encouraging and supporting improvement in housing conditions and management standards in the private rented sector
• Improving home energy efficiency
• Working with Berneslai Homes to ensure that council housing is well managed and maintained
• Administration of the Right to Buy scheme
Council housing in Barnsley is managed on behalf of the Council by Berneslai Homes. - The Council Housing service is managed by Berneslai Homes on behalf of the Council.
