Article: What is Building Control Article Body Building Control is responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe built environment within the Borough. This is primarily achieved by ensuring that new buildings comply with Building Regulations. Other functions carried out within the Section include responding to and dealing with reported dangerous structures, safety at sports grounds, public entertainment and justices licensing, and street naming and property numbering. Currently we operate our service with a team of 20 staff, four of which being administrative support. Last year we processed over 3,200 Building Regulation applications and carried out approximately 14,200 inspections on building sites. In broad terms we controlled over £105 million worth of construction work. We have clear performance standards relating to the processing of Building Regulation Applications and to the site inspection of building works. We have systems in place to continually monitor these standards. The Building Control Customer Charter and our public information leaflets provide our customers with clear information and guidance on our service. We are readily accessible to our customers. The use of new technology is providing our customers more choice in accessing our services. We are able to demonstrate that our regulatory function, i.e. the enforcement of Building Regulations, is carried out in a fair and equitable manner and that we are friendly and helpful to all our customers. We value customer complaints and have a formally adopted complaints procedure. We work with other Building Control providers under the LANTAC (Local Authority National Type Approval Confederation) scheme and in partnership with the private sector, e.g. Design and Site Stewardship Awards. We value our customers comments, and use this feedback to continually improve our service delivery in order to increase customer satisfaction. The Service has provided 12 information leaflets for the public. Follow the Links For More Specific Information.
