People Removing Litter

Article Body

Neighbourhood Services is responsible for the removal of litter throughout the borough except for the imediate town centre of Barnsley(the main shopping centre). The borough's streets and footpaths are cleaned on a regular basis. They are cleaned on a daily, weekly or monthly cycle, We remove the accumulation of litter from council land and empty the litter bins.

Barnsley town centre streets are maintained by the Town Centre Management team.

Helplines

To report litter on the street and litter bins that are full or vandalised you can

  • Complete an online form to report litter or litter bin and Neighbourhood Services will sort out the problem
  • Email Neighbourhoodservices@barnsley.gov.uk - please provide a specific location of the litter or litter bin or, for example, the nearest lamp post number or property/shop number
  • Contact us by telephone on 01226 775656. Lines are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank and public holidays)
  • Visit a Barnsley Connects service centre
  • Write to us at Barnsley Council, Neighbourhood Services, PO Box 605, S70 9FF.

  • Email towncentreambassadors@barnsley.gov.uk- please provide a specific location of the litter or, for example, the nearest lamp post number or property/shop number
  • Contact us by telephone on 01226 772248
    Office opening hours: Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 5pm, Sunday 6am to 1.30pm

Charges/Fees

There is a charge for removal of litter and fly tipped rubbish on private land. Please see fly tipping link on the right hand side of this page for further information.

How the customer can help

Please help by being responsible with your litter and use the facilities that are available :-

  • Use the free Household Waste Recycling centres for unwanted items - alternatively see the Waste Management Special Collections service
  • Have registered waste collection contracts for your business.
  • Be tidy with your litter and chewing gum.
  • Clean up after your dog.
  • Report "fly posting" it is unsightly and illegal.
  • Report "fly tipping" it is unsightly and illegal.
  • Try not to park your vehicle where you want us to clean

Access is from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 with J37 just 1 mile from the Town Hall (S70 2TA).

We have frequent rail services to mainline stations at Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. There are also five airports within one hour of the town centre, namely Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham East Midlands and Humberside.
