Electoral Services have two main functions:-

  • the compilation and publication of the register of electors
  • the administration of all elections and referendums

Opening hours

Our office opening hours are as follows:-

Monday - Thursday 8.30 am to 5.00 pm 
Friday 8.30 am to 4.30 pm

Visiting the Electoral Services Office

With effect from Tuesday 4 January 2011, the electoral register will be available for public inspection at the Civic Hall, Eldon Street, Barnsley.

Local Elections 2012

Local elections are scheduled to take place across the borough on Thursday 3 May 2012.

The Notice of Election will be published on Monday 26 March 2012.

Nomination packs will be available from Monday 19 March 2012 from Electoral Services, Springfield House, Springfield Street, Barnsley S70 6HH.  Packs will also be made available at Yorkshire House, Shambles Street, Barnsley S70 2SW from 10.30 am on the same date.

Appointments for the delivery of nomination papers will be available during normal office hours from noon on Tuesday 27 March 2012 until noon on Wednesday 4 April 2012.

Candidates and Agents briefings are scheduled to be held at the Central Library, Shambles Street, Barnsley S70 2JF at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 28 March 2012 and 4.00 pm on Thursday 12 April 2012.

Access is from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 with J37 just 1 mile from the Town Hall (S70 2TA).

We have frequent rail services to mainline stations at Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. There are also five airports within one hour of the town centre, namely Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham East Midlands and Humberside.
