Article: Building Schools for the Future Article Body Barnsley's Building Schools for the Future Programme has resulted in seven state of the art buildings being handed over to schools in just seven months. Carlton Community College and Dearne ALC opened in January 2011, followed by Darton College in February, and Kirk Balk Community College and Penistone Grammar ALC in April. Phase 2 of the programme delivered the new Springwell Community Special School in July and Greenacre Special School in August 2011. Shafton ALC, the last of the phase 2 schools, was successfully handed over to the school on 3 January 2012, on schedule, and opened its doors to pupils on 6 January. The third and final phase of the programme was financially closed on 29 October 2010 and work has already begun on the the final three ALCs, which will be completed by September 2012.
