Alternatively, you can visit us at the Barnsley Connects Service Centre, The Civic, Eldon Street, Barnsley, S70 2JL between 9.00 - 1.00pm Monday Friday, where we provide a duty surveyor to give technical or general advice.

 

If you wish to speak with a specific surveyor, you can arrange to meet with them at the Barnsley Connects Service Centre by prior appointment between 9.00 - 5.00pm Monday - Friday.

 

Alternatively, a Building Control Surveyor is always available by telephone to give technical, or general advice and to receive inspection requests, between 9.00 - 5.00pm Monday Friday.

The day to day management of the operational areas is undertaken by two Principal Surveyors. Each area is controlled by two Building Control Surveyors under the supervision of a Senior Surveyor. The Building Control Manager overseas all operations and is supported by technical/clerical staff.

Building Control Manager
The Building Control Manager is responsible for the Building Regulation Approval of all building in the Borough through the co-ordination of the surveying teams. He also has responsibility for managing the dangerous structures 24 hour call out service, along with demolition works, consultation with the Fire Authority and matters of policy. The service provides a wide range of advice on building, health and safety, energy and access facilities for the disabled.

Principal Building Control Surveyor
The Principal Building Control Surveyors directly manages both the Western and Eastern Areas surveying teams. Their first priority is to ensure that the day to day plan checking and site inspection services provided by Building Control are being carried out in accordance with the time scales of our Customer Charter. They are also responsible for the management of the technical policies of the office and the training of the staff. They are also responsible for:

  • Local Authority Partnership Applications
  • Marketing
  • Major projects within Barnsley

Technical Services - Senior Building Control Surveyor
He is responsible for dealing with the following:

  • Reported dangerous or dilapidated structures.
  • Issuing street names and property numbers.
  • Advice regarding the Licensing of public premises and entertainment venues.
  • Safety of sports grounds legislation.

Senior BuildingControl Surveyors
They are responsible for the following:

  • Fire Safety
  • Health & Safety

Support Staff
The supporting staff provide valuable assistance to the Building Control Service. They also provide general advice and information.

Access is from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 with J37 just 1 mile from the Town Hall (S70 2TA).

We have frequent rail services to mainline stations at Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. There are also five airports within one hour of the town centre, namely Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham East Midlands and Humberside.
