Article Body

LABC TYPE APPROVAL is a long established better way to build.

The singular initial Building Regulation assessment and certification process helps to guide you through all Building Control issues at the design stage, assures compliance with the Building Regulations, and streamlines the approval process for all subsequent uses of your building or construction component throughout England and Wales.

Nationally in the region of 20,000 certificates for all types of construction matter have been issued.

LABC TYPE APPROVAL is your route to:

  • assured compliance with the Building Regulations
  • consistent interpretation of Building Regulations
  • a fast track through building regulation approval procedures
  • a single point of contact with building control
  • early consultation with technical experts
  • ongoing consultative support across duration of certificate
  • pre-approval consultation with linked agencies
  • saving of your time and money as inspecting authority checks are confined to site specific issues only
  • a marketing edge for approved products

LABC TYPE APPROVAL can be granted for all types of construction features that are subject to the Building Regulations. For clarity of purpose we group our certification into the following categories:

House
Any dwellings including new houses, flats (up to 4 storeys), holiday chalets, etc are all covered by this category.

This approval is ideally suited to standard house types repeated across the country, but there is no reason why more individual designs cannot be approved as required.

The approval deals with all standard parts of the building and can include ancillary buildings such as private garages.

Foundations will normally be excluded from the approval, but if a foundation format is being used that has, or could gain approval under the System category, they may be included in the consideration. Similarly site-specific design and construction requirements would normally depend upon local consideration but our certification is geared to include for as much standardisation as is feasible. Various location factors and design limits may be conditional to the approval.

Building
This category covers complete standard designs for whole buildings of any use apart from the homes included under the House category.

Flats over 4 storeys fall into this category.

The scope of inclusions is as per the House category.

Systems
A very wide category that covers modular building systems, individual building elements, designs and systems that can be used for or form part of standard or different building designs and configurations. It also includes for temporary structures of a wide variety.

The approval will deal with all parts of the building or structure covered by the applicability of the Building Regulations, Licensing Controls and other Building Control legislation.

System Type Approval can be conditional upon the range of use, location factors and other design limits, the manufacture, design and construction methodology, manufactures details, and the conjunction of its use with other specified construction parameters.

Products
This verifies individual products and components in respect of compliance with specified Building Regulations.

It can be applied to any construction product or component that is its self subject to the Building Regulations or that contributes to, or has an influence, upon compliance with the Building Regulations.

Product Type Approval is subject to the same range of considerations as the System category.
