Article Body

Barnsley Drug & Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is the partnership responsible for delivering, at a local level, the National Drug Strategy 2010 and Barnsley Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy working with a Recovery focus.

The DAAT ensures that the work of local agencies is brought together effectively and that cross-agency projects are co-ordinated successfully. The DAAT takes strategic decisions on expenditure and service delivery within the aims of the National Strategies and their main themes

  • Protecting Communities
  • Preventing harm to children, young people and families
  • Delivering new approaches to substance misuse treatment and social re-integration including building Recovery in communities
  • Public information campaigns and communication

Our work involves

  • Undertaking a needs assessment and asset mapping
  • Commissioning services to meet identified need and achieve required outcomes
  • Monitoring performance and supporting service improvement
  • Communicating plans, activities and performance to stakeholders
  • Working with service users and carers

DAATs are financed by the National Treatment Agency, Ministry of Justice, PCT and Local Authority. We work closely with local agencies and non commissioned voluntary groups who provide information and other support to people and their families who use alcohol and drugs.
