Opening Hours

Please note that due to unforseen circumstances the library closing times have been temporarily amended to the following:-

9AM - 5PM
With the exception of the first Monday in the month when the library will open to 7pm for the Readers Group

Tuesday 9AM - 5PM
Wednesday 9AM - 5PM
Thursday 9AM - 5PM
Friday 9AM - 4.30PM
Saturday 9AM - 12.30PM

Further Information

Roundhouse Library is located within the Roundhouse Lifelong Learning Centre, just behind the local shopping area. The library, opened in March 2001, serves the Athersley North, Athersley South, New Lodge, Smithies and Carlton areas. It is an integral part of the Lifelong Learning Centre and the local community. A Reader's Group meet in the library to discuss books and films.

A number of local community groups meet regularly at the Centre and the Athersley Partnership run Study Support sessions, Monday-Thursday between 3.30 and 5.30pm for children living in the area. The Centre hosts IT and a variety of other courses, including Learn Direct . The Roundhouse Library and Lifelong Learning Centre offers a friendly and helpful service, and welcomes new visitors. Please contact the Centre for further information.

Roundhouse Library is a public access building, Barnsley Council and the Primary Care Trust have worked in partnership with Disabled Go to develop an access guide for disabled people, their friends, family, carers and colleagues in relation to such buildings. Access is from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 with J37 just 1 mile from the Town Hall (S70 2TA).

We have frequent rail services to mainline stations at Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. There are also five airports within one hour of the town centre, namely Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham East Midlands and Humberside.
