Temporary Closure Wombwell Library

Please note that Wombwell Library will be closed from Friday 15th June 2012 and will reopen on Wednesday 18th July 2012.  When the library reopens it will be combined with the Barnsley Connects office previously situated in the Wombwell Town Hall.

Additional services will be on offer including advice and guidance on benefits and taxation, together with providing access to services for Berneslai Homes.  Customers will also be able to use the facilities to make contact with a range of other council services such as Highways, Licensing, Neighbourhood Pride, Planning, Social Services, and Waste Management. 

The Library and Information Service will also continue as before but with new extended opening hours. 

During the closure period, books can be borrowed from or returned to any other library and no fines will be charged for items due back during the period.  If you have a PIN number, please use the Library Catalogue to search for and renew your books.  Details of nearby libraries for PC and Internet access are available on the library webpages or by calling 01226 773911. The nearest libraries are Darfield and Hoyland.

We apologies for any inconvenience caused during the closure period.

Further Information

Wombwell branch library has disabled acess to the rear of the building (please ring bell) and there is also a car park available.

A Reader's Group meet monthly at the Library and a Story and Rhyme session takes place.  In addition the following groups and classes meet at the Library:-

    Researching Family History 1.15pm-3.15pm
    Wombwell Heritage Group - Local History 2.00pm-4.00pm
Thursday Wombwell Heritage Group - Local History 2.00pm-4.00pm
Friday Job Club held in conjunction with Barnsley College and Job Centre Plus

Wombwell Library is a public access building, Barnsley Council and the Primary Care Trust have worked in partnership with Disabled Go to develop an access guide for disabled people, their friends, family, carers and colleagues in relation to such buildings. Access is from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 with J37 just 1 mile from the Town Hall (S70 2TA).

We have frequent rail services to mainline stations at Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds. There are also five airports within one hour of the town centre, namely Manchester, Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham East Midlands and Humberside.
