Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils are working together to produce a joint plan for strategic waste sites.
Earlier this year we consulted on the first stage of preparing the DPD, which was called Issues and Options Consultation. You can see details from the earlier Issues and Options consultation here.
We are currently considering the comments we received as part of that consultation before undertaking further consultation later in the year.
CONSULTATION REPORT
We now have the results of the consultation, summarised in a Consultation Report which also highlights some of the emerging key issues.
I would particularly draw your attention to Section 8 of the summary, which deals with the opportunity to widen the scope of the Development Plan Document (or DPD) as the plan is called, so as to cover the whole range of waste sites and related policies; and Section 10, which explains how the feedback will be used.
A Non-technical Summary of the Consultation Report is also available.
INTERIM REPORT OF SUSTAINABILITY APPRAISAL – OPPORTUNITY TO COMMENT
An important part of the DPD process is the use of Sustainability Appraisal, which is used to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of emerging policy in relation to economic, social and environmental issues. An Interim Sustainability Appraisal Report is now available.
A Non-technical Summary of the Interim Sustainability Appraisal Report is also available.
If you wish to comment on the Interim Sustainability Appraisal, comments should be sent to Land Use Consultants by 5 pm on the 8th August 2008, by one of the following means:
Please note that comments made in response to previous consultations will be taken into account and there is no need to repeat these comments.

CHANGES TO THE PLANNING SYSTEM
As you may be aware, the UK Government has recently revised the planning system. We are currently considering how these changes may affect the next stages of the Waste DPD. Updates of the next stages and proposed timescale will be made available on our website.
