It’s National Offer Day and families across Barnsley are finding out which primary school their children will be starting at in September.
We’ve been able to offer 2,451 children (93.9 per cent) their first choice of primary school, helping young people aim high and fulfil their learning potential.
The number of children receiving an offer from their first choice of primary school is up slightly from last year and is the most we’ve been able to offer since 2019/20.
We’re delighted to offer 2,587 children (99 per cent) a place at one of their preferred primary schools this year, helping more children to flourish at the start of their education journey.
The number of children receiving an offer from one of their preferred schools is also up on last year, including:
- 117 children (4.5 per cent) getting their second choice.
- 19 children (0.7 per cent) getting their third choice.
We’re committed in Barnsley to making sure no children are left without a school offer.
23 children (0.9 per cent) didn’t get any of their preferred choices but have been allocated a place at an alternative school with the help of our admissions team.
Carly Speechley, Executive Director for Children’s Services, said: “We want every child and young person to be able to aim high, excel in their education and achieve their full potential. We’re therefore delighted to offer 99 per cent of children a place at one of their preferred primary schools, including 94 per cent getting their first choice.
“This could not be possible without all of the great work of our admissions team, making sure no child is left without a school place for September. I would like to thank them for making this process simple for families and helping give children the best possible start.
“We understand that some children and families may have received disappointing news today and we’re here to help you with the next steps.”
