Ambition Barnsley returns to inspire for the future

Ambition Barnsley returns to the Metrodome on Wednesday 20 November, giving secondary school students the opportunity to explore options in higher education and employment.

Organised by Barnsley Council, Ambition Barnsley is the biggest event in the local careers calendar and is part of the council’s commitment to raising aspirations and has become essential in helping Barnsley’s young people find out more about their future options after Year 11.

Various secondary schools from across the borough will be in attendance from 9.15am, bringing students from Year 9-11 to visit the interactive stalls exhibited by colleges, providers, support agencies, universities and employers from across the country.

Staff from The Glass Works will also be there to showcase how the future of the town centre is shaping up.

Providers and employers will include Rolls Royce, Sheffield Hallam University, Berneslai Homes, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Barnsley College and Barnsley FC Community Trust.

Councillor Tim Cheetham, Cabinet spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said: "We're thrilled to be hosting the Ambition Barnsley event at the Metrodome again following the success of previous years.

"It has proven to be a fantastic way for local schoolchildren to explore and discover the options available to them after leaving secondary education.

"Whether they want to continue in education or embark on an apprenticeship with a major employer, Ambition Barnsley can be a big help in guiding our youngsters into the next phase of their lives.

"I would encourage parents but particularly students to come along on the day."

The open session of Ambition Barnsley runs from 3.45pm to 6.30pm with last entry at 6.15pm. Parents and carers of Year 9-11 students are welcome to attend. No booking in advance is required, simply turn up on the day.
