Apply for primary and secondary school places for September 2021

Applications are now open for both primary and secondary schools for September 2021.  

Parents and carers can apply for their child’s school place using the new online portal. People who have used the previous system will need to re-register and use the new portal for all school admissions.

It’s quick and easy to apply for a school place online – applicants will receive email acknowledgement of their school preferences, and there is no form to take into school. There is no risk the application will get lost, and the result of any application can be sent by email, which is quicker than by post.

The closing date for submission of applications is 31 October 2020 for secondary schools and 15 January 2021 for primary schools. 

Councillor Margaret Bruff, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said: “It might feel like a long way off, but we know that starting a new school is a big milestone. Last year, 93 per cent of children received an offer for their first preferred primary school and 94 per cent for secondary pupils.

“It is very important that you apply on time and you should identify three preferences. You’ll soon receive information packs for all eligible children, but there’s no need to wait, you can still apply online before receiving your packs.”
