Award-winning Elsecar Park is in the running to become one of the nation’s favourite parks

The experts have had their say, and in July, Elsecar Park was given the prestigious Green Flag Award.

The award, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, aims to find the best Green Flag parks in the UK – a status given to exceptionally high-quality green public spaces. Elsecar Park won the Green Flag Award for the twelfth time earlier this year for its excellent green spaces; which include the Tee Cup café, a wonderful smoke-free play area and a new toddler cycle track.

To be in with a chance of being crowned the winner of the Green Flag People’s Choice Award 2019, Elsecar Park needs as many votes as possible. Voting opens Sunday 1 September and closes Monday 30 September, with the top 10 sites being announced on Tuesday 15 October.

Councillor Chris Lamb cabinet spokesperson for Place (Environment and Transport)  said: “We are delighted to hear that Elsecar park is being recognised once again within these awards.

“The staff and volunteers have worked hard to make this such a wonderful place for our communities, and would encourage people to take a couple of minutes and vote online.”

Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award Manager, said, “This year we have had more Green Flag Award winning sites than ever before, The People’s Choice Award is an opportunity to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now.”

All you have to do is go to www.greenflagaward.org find your park on the winner's map and click the voting button. Once you’ve registered your vote, why not encourage others to get involved too through social media using the hashtag #PeoplesChoice.
