Barnsley Council today announced that Sarah Norman, current Chief Executive at Dudley Council, is being recommended for appointment as the council’s new Chief Executive.
Councillors will vote on the appointment at the full council meeting on 4 April 2019.
Cllr Sir Steve Houghton CBE, Leader of Barnsley Council, chaired the Member Appointment panel that is recommending Ms Norman’s appointment. Cllr Houghton said: “We’re extremely pleased to have appointed Sarah Norman, as an experienced and well regarded Chief Executive, to the post here in Barnsley.
“I have no doubt she will build on the success of Diana Terris at a time when Local Government, and Barnsley in particular, have been hard hit through austerity.
“Sarah brings a strong knowledge of adult and children’s services, as well as that broader perspective a successful Chief Executive requires.
“We’re strongly looking forward to working with her in the years ahead.”
Sarah Norman said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Barnsley Council as its next Chief Executive. It will be a privilege to build on the great work done by my predecessor Diana Terris. I’m very excited by all the regeneration happening in Barnsley and the opportunity to connect cranes with communities to make sure that local people really benefit.”
Sarah is set to take up her post in the summer.
She will take over from retiring Chief Executive, Diana Terris who joined Barnsley Council in 2012.
