Barnsley Council supports National Adoption Week 2018

Barnsley Council are once again supporting National Adoption Week (15-21 October) as we focus on the qualities and the role of the adopter.

Run by the charity First4Adoption, National Adoption Week is addressing the need to find families for some of the most vulnerable children within the borough. But adoption would not be possible without compassionate people coming forward to provide a supporting and loving home to change the life of a child.

We are always looking to find adopters and an application to adopt will be taken into consideration for anyone aged 21 and above regardless of marital status, race, disability, sexuality or gender.

It doesn't matter whether you are employed, own your own house, already have children of your own or unable to have children of your own - as long as you can provide a bedroom and cover the living costs of the child, you'll be considered.

Cllr Margaret Bruff, Cabinet Spokesperson for People (Safeguarding) said: "We want to use National Adoption Week as an opportunity to bust some of the myths surrounding adoption - namely the qualities needed for an individual to be able to adopt.

"We need adoptive parents from all backgrounds who are compassionate, resilient and willing to give a child a safe and stable home through to adulthood but, more importantly, a loving family for life to help them flourish.

"If you are considering adopting, I would encourage you to come along to one of our information evenings to meet our excellent adoption team and begin a journey for yourself and the child whose life you will change."

The next adoption information evening is at Barnsley Town Hall on Wednesday 17 October from 6pm until 7.30pm. It’s a great opportunity to meet the adoption team, ask questions and hear first-hand about the training and support available throughout the adoption process. Additional dates are advertised here.
