Barnsley Dementia care services celebrated at awards ceremony

Barnsley’s first-ever Dementia awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 30 January; professionals and volunteers in the health and social care sectors will come together at Barnsley Metrodome to celebrate the best of Barnsley Dementia care services.

National, regional and local speakers will bring delegates up to date with the latest dementia research and future plans. There will be a discussion on what services are doing to meet the needs of people living with Dementia and their carers in Barnsley. The day will be rounded up with an awards ceremony for categories like ‘Best of Barnsley Residential Care Manager Award’ and ‘Best of Barnsley Dementia Support Volunteer Award’. These awards will celebrate the services around the borough and the collaborative work that the Dementia Multi-Agency group do.

Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Adults and Communities, said: “These awards showcase the brilliant work that services are doing for our residents that are living with Dementia and their carers. By working together with partners, we are always looking at ways we can make life more full, happy and independent for people living with Dementia.”

Event organiser Cath Magee, Service Manager of Barnsley Dementia Gateway Service, said: “These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what is great about the people and services offering support for people living with Dementia and their carers in Barnsley. There are 53 people nominated for 13 awards, all of who show considerable skill, knowledge and great kindness in their work.”

This news is linked to Town Spirit, our new way of working better together. We believe, that if everyone in Barnsley does just one thing, we can make our borough a more welcoming place to live, work, invest and visit.

#LiveIt helps us to support the most vulnerable people, making sure they can access support at the earliest possible stage. #OwnIt by keeping your own and your family's health at its best, asking for support when you need it and looking out for your friends and neighbours.
