Barnsley Council is full of excitement and bursting with energy this week as they officially launch the much anticipated Barnsley energy tariff - an energy tariff dedicated to the residents of Barnsley. The council is delighted to be bringing the energy tariff to Barnsley in partnership with not-for-profit energy provider, Great North Energy.
The Barnsley tariff is now officially live and every resident with a Barnsley postcode is invited to receive a no obligation quote and find out how much they could save. Residents can start the switch process from their current supplier onto the Barnsley energy tariff immediately.
Despite rising energy costs, some residents fail to switch supplier on a regular basis and some have never switched. This could be due to residents feeling secure with their existing supplier, being wary of going through the switch process or a result of busy lives where the resident falls into the trap of automatically renewing for convenience. But with the cold months on their way, Barnsley Council is urging residents to take this opportunity to review their current supplier and see how much they could save and benefit from the new tariff.
Reducing fuel poverty is a key ambition for the council and they’re already working hard to help residents reduce energy bills through their Better Homes energy efficiency schemes. But with the ‘big six’ energy companies dominating the energy market with ever increasing prices , it’s hoped that the new tariff will also help to lift residents out of fuel poverty or stop them falling into it in the first place - by offering fairer, transparent and consistently competitive prices.
Cllr Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for Place, said: “We’re delighted to be joining forces with not-for-profit energy provider, Great North Energy to offer our residents the Barnsley tariff. Great North Energy shares the council’s ethos of putting the customer first – at the heart of everything we do - so we really look forward to working in partnership with them to bring the tariff to our residents.
“We’re switching all our council houses to the new tariff when there is a change of tenant and really would like to encourage all residents to get a quote and find the right deal for them. It’s important to note that the Barnsley tariff is not just about immediate savings – it’s about residents being treated fairly year after year, no hidden costs or sudden price hikes at the end of a fixed period. It’s about transparency and helping vulnerable residents who need support and reassurance in switching to a trusted supplier that puts the customers first every time”.
Richard Smith, project lead for Great North Energy, said: “Following its introduction to the market in November 2017, we are proud that the brand has grown and is now being promoted as Barnsley Council’s preferred energy provider for residents - just twelve months after its launch. By introducing a locally named tariff this helps to reinforce the benefits to people living in Barnsley. Showing support for Great North Energy in this way demonstrates confidence in the brand which we hope will continue to grow regionally and beyond.”
