The borough has officially had the first grit of the season, and there’s a fab team of #WinterWarriors on hand at Barnsley Council, tasked with #KeepingBarnsleyMoving in the upcoming winter months.
For people planning a journey within South Yorkshire, #SYgrit is perfect for keeping updated and planning ahead. The hashtag returns, bringing together gritting alerts and winter maintenance information from Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster Councils.
Social media users can access the combined information by searching for #SYgrit on Twitter and Facebook, while the @BarnsleyHighway Twitter account provides lots of helpful local information. With the #GritterTwitter takeover, there'll be plenty of behind the scenes action and insight into the team's hard work this winter.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “As the temperatures begin to drop, it’s great to see the return of #SYgrit. Working with other local authorities, we can provide information to help people plan their journeys across South Yorkshire.”
“As usual, months of planning will see the gritting crews on call to help keep vehicles on the primary gritting routes moving safely. We're ready to tackle snow and ice on our network, with our winter plan in action.”
"Take care, plan your journey before travelling and leave plenty of time to get to your destination in adverse weather.”
